IFCC Standard

International Forestry Carbon Credit Standard facilitates easy certification of offsetting projects. See what distinguishes our methodology.

Nature gives us the best solutions to tackle climate change

Restored biodiversity, and improved soil, water, and air quality – we can achieve this and much more by planting trees. However, only adequately executed sequestration projects positively impact the climate and improve the quality of life of the local communities. TerGo Foundation’s International Forestry Carbon Credit Standard follows the latest research, regulations, and standards, is fully transparent, and supports both nature and people.

Climate justice

Climate change affects people differently depending on the place they live. The regions most affected by global warming effects are located predominantly in developing countries, the so-called Global South. Investing in the conservation and development of the affected ecosystems has enormous benefits in climate change mitigation and helps local communities. By promoting the development of sequestration projects, we ensure good jobs, sustainable land use, and effective climate change mitigation.

No financial barrier

The IFCC standard is distinguished by a minimized financial entry threshold. Unlike existing standards on the market, we do not charge a registration fee or review fees. The brokerage fee only applies to VERs sold. Therefore, the project owner only bears the costs associated with the sale of the offsets already created and the verification of the project during its lifetime. Thanks to the IFCC standard, there is no need to invest large sums of money before the project’s launch.

This many trees have been planted to sequester CO2e in projects following our IFCC Standard.

How do we work?

Local community

Together with the local community, we search for the land most suitable for an agroforestry project.

Tree planting

A diverse planting profile optimizes the uptake of greenhouse gases and improves soil health and natural resistance to parasites.

Supervision

We ensure the best growth conditions through composting, elimination of synthetic fertilizers,
and minimal interference.

Planting methodology

TerGo’s planting approach optimizes CO2 intake, soil conditions, and trees’ growth, providing excellent carbon storage in the plants and below ground.

Step 1: Planting inga leguminous trees in rows, leaving space for timber and fruit trees in between.

Step 2: Planting fruit trees in rows in the middle.

Step 3: Planting madre-de-cacao on the edges of the plot; they act as wind-breakers and protect borders.
